DJ Sbu on why he closed TS Records

Having made major moves in the industry, touching lives through his work & producing chart-topping music DJ Sbu actually has more tricks up his sleeve that you can expect.

One of the most inspiring entertainer/entrepreneurs of our generation recently dropped his first single VUM VUM after a while of not releasing music.

The single VUM VUM is a remake of Brown Dash original track. DJ Sbu says that he felt the need to keep Brown Dash's memory and legacy alive for the next generation to come so they would know how much of a great artist Brown Dash was.

The single features Patoranking and DJ Maphorisa whom DJ Sbu feels were the best artists to place on the single.

Talking to ZAlebs in a recent interview, DJ Sbu said: “The only thing I can do to contribute in carrying his memory alive is through his music and we can’t just let such good music just sit there.”

The entrepreneur went on to say that whatever little money that will be made from the song will be shared with Brown’s mother and family, celebrating his life.

Although Sbu’s focus has always been on about running his various business which include running Massive Metro, Mo Faya and Loko Flame the artist says that when he finds inspiration to make music he still goes to the studio and records a song. Sbu has unfinished songs with, Portia Monique, Toya Delazy and much more.

“A body of work might follow or it might not...but I’m a musician so you never really know...if I do, do it right now, it will be for the love of it, not for the money or not to get gigs.”

All the hard work put in - from selling his MoFaya beverage at the Bree taxi rank to promoting the brand on a plane, Sbu says it's now for his four-year-old daughter and for other unborn children and generations to come after him.

“When you see me like a crazy man in the streets pushing my Mofaya, making noise, I’m not an idiot, I’m doing this for my daughter.” he said.

Shooting my brand new tv show to debut on @mzansi_fosho in November. Excited to be back home on SABC1!

The media personality is back on our screens after his last appearance on the channel as the Friends like these presenter but now takes a different approach on SABC 1. With over 1.7 million impressions on his movement, DJ Sbu plans to inspire more through his work.

“SABC 1 is my home, I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to get another break on SABC 1 because it reaches the most people in South Africa and that's basically the platform responsible for who I am today,” he said.

His new show is called The Future Leader and will premiers on the 31st of October on SABC 1.

The show is all about putting together an uplifting programme for the community, building leaders and empowering the community on a long-term scale, assigning young people mentors that are already in the industry.

More can be expected of him as he plans on doing more on the channel as well

“...I’m gonna be following up with a whole lot of other projects on SABC 1, but from a production level and entrepreneurial perspective, by giving other young people a chance,” he added.
