Power FM morning host Lawrence Tlhabane - now known as Lawrence Dube - has informed the media that he’d prefer not to explain his surname change since he left Kaya FM almost three years ago.
Dube has been in the broadcasting business since the days of Radio Bop (yep that many years ago). Besides Kaya FM he's also had stints on Metro FM and has dabbled with television presenting with shows like the Toyota Top 20.
Speaking to City Press Dube had the following to say about his name change:
“It has to do with my ancestral family roots. I’d like to leave it at that.”
Steering away from the seriousness of his name change, at 6am yesterday morning Dube let his nerves get the best of him during his first Power FM 98.1 link where he accidently said “Hi, this is Kaya FM”. Yes, that was quite embarrassing for a radio veteran but as the saying goes, it happens to the best of us!
Apart from that awkward first link Dube assured Power FM listeners that there will be magic created during his morning show.
“The show will breathe life where newspapers left off. But it won’t be a lecture room; it will be a platform to interact and disseminate news.”
