This year, Engen teamed up with Influencers and other stakeholders for a road trip through KwaZulu Natal down to the Vodacom Durban July. The roadtrip began in the province’s iconic Midland’s regions, before making its way to Greyville, the site of the Vodacom Durban July.
A group of celebrities and influencers were invited a long for the ride. Bob Mabena, DJ Naked, Matthew Mensah, Inga Gubeka and Lerato Kganyago all loaded up for the fun trip down to Durban with Engen.
Engen recently announced a three-year partnership with Africa’s greatest horse-racing event as the official fuel partner of the iconic KZN event. The coastal province is integral to Engen’s sustainable business strategy as it is home to a number of its key assets, including the Engen Refinery, a crucial component in ensuring South Africa’s fuel needs are met.
We got to chat to one of the biggest names in their squad for the weekend, Lerato Kganyago. With almost a decade in entertainment, the star is no stranger to the Durban July. We caught up with her to talk about her experience this year with Engen.
ZAlebs (ZA) : What made you decide to be a part of this initiative with Engen?
Lerato Kganyago (LK): Considering how much I love driving, I should have been a racing car driver in another life time! So when I was asked to be part of this journey with Engen I jumped on the opportunity to explore KZN, to reconnect with my peers and share ideas while on the go. To also learn more by being a part of the Engen CSI initiatives about the business offerings as a young entrepreneur.
ZA: Why are initiatives like Engen's partnership with VDJ important?
LK: All roads lead to Durban for the July so it makes sense for them to partner as a No.1 leading oil company that committed to health, safety, environment.
ZA: Tell us more about your look by you long time friend, Gert-Johan Coetzee.
LK: My style is a mixture of sophistication, class with a bit of street wear depending on the event The theme this year had to do with embracing Africa. So, myself and Gert went with a regal gold look that represents our nation's mineral wealth.
ZA: Do you feel any pressure is there to look flawless at events like this?
LK: There is no pressure at all. Through the year, I’ve always been one to stick to my own identity and style on the red carpet regardless of people's opinions.
ZA: What was the highlight of the trip for you?
LK: Watching the actual Horse Racing was an amazing experience. Actually, the whole trip was a fantastic experience and I would do it all over again!
