We were promised that 2019 would be the year that Nadia Nakai finally releases her debut album and although we've been hurt before, it looks like it's finally safe to get excited.
Nadia Nakai has released an EP and a number of singles in her time that we've known her, and although her status as one of South Africa's most talented rappers is no longer up for debate, the one thing that her career has been missing is a full studio album.
The thing is, short projects are a great way to sample your favourite artists, but a full record with 10 or more tracks (unless you're stingy like 2018 Kanye West) is the perfect canvas for an artist to illustrate their vision. After years of waiting, 2019 appears to be Nadia's time and on Friday she revealed that record's release is closer than ever.
First, she teased that a big announcement was coming "At 12":
And when midday came, Bragga delivered the news we'd all been waiting for:
Her album will be titled "Naked" and will be releasing on the 28th of June 2019. Considering that the rapper is turning 28 this year that date is particularly symbolic for the Naa Mean hitmaker.
Nadia previously revealed to Tshisa Live that the reason why the album had taken so long is because she wanted to make sure the album was exactly as she wanted it to be.
"I know everyone has been waiting but I can't say much right now. I don't want to drop something that I am not completely proud of and then look back and think I could have done better. I try not to give into the pressure and then regret it."
Are you as excited for Nadia's new record as the rest of us? In the meantime, what do you think of the rapper's new bae?
