[OPINION] Generations Puts The Spotlight On Men Abuse

For the longest of time, when one thinks of domestic abuse, images of a battered and bruised woman usually come to mind. However the tide of domestic violence has reached an interesting trajectory whereby women can no longer be categorised as classic examples of abuse victims - men abuse is on the rise.

Tackling this fast becoming phenomenon, is SABC 1's flagship soapie, Generations: The Legacy.

The writers of this soapie took a brave stance of peeling down the other side of domestic abuse. The current storyline surrounding the dynamics between Zitha played by Zoe Mthiyane and Smanga, played by Moopi Mothibeli, proves to be a mind opening experience as these two characters take us on a journey of how various forms of abuse affect men.

On Tuesday's episode of Generations, Zitha and Smanga checked themselves into therapy whereby Zitha was clearly in denial about her abusive tactics, which is most likely how abusers defend themselves.

Some of the comments from the streets of Twitter.

The storyline between Zitha and Smanga serves a very crucial role, in terms of awakening the abused man to reality hence they are more likely to admit that back at the ranch, they are being abused.

Hopefully riveting and daring storyline as these will create much needed discussions around the other side of abuse - Men Abuse.
