GHD at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

GHD at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

Mar 12, 2015, 10:14 PM

This year's Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Johannesburg was a spectacle for fans of fashion and a celebration for a lot of our local designers. Ahead of the annual fashion event, all eyes were on Nhlanhla Nciza's brand new NN Vintage line which was a hit during the week. I was invited by the good people at GHD to spend some time back stage and talk about one of the most important aspects of any runway look, the hair.

A lot of time is spent perfecting the runway look and hair styling, like shoes and accessories, can make or break your look. When I was backstage of MBFWJ with Andrew Young of GHD, he talked me through just what it takes to have the perfect hairdo that complements your outfit, as well as taking care of your hair in Winter.

"People need to have an understanding of hair texture and the fact that certain hair can tolerate certain amounts of heat aWe have been official sponsors of the AFI Mercedes Benz Fashion Week for the past 8 years but getting our models' hair to look perfect is always going to be a challenge.

Throughout the years, we have been offering internships for young graduates in the hair and beauty care department. It is quite a great deal to be part of such a big event".

When asked to comment on  some of the popular looks in the runway and easy hairstyles to maintain this Autumn/Winter season, Andrew said "In the fashion week which happened last year November in Cape Town, we saw that the current "in look" is a more sleek, plain minimal look. We have also saw the curve and the afro make a comeback"

We're not done with our MBFWJ recap though! Have you seen our gallery full of some of the most amazing designs that were on display this past week?

On top of all of that, I also covered the Fast Track Young Designers event, so keep an eye on ZAlebs for that review!
