The festival, which ended after 23:30, featured some of the world's biggest musicians including Wizkid, Pharrell Williams, Jay Z and Beyoncé. It was a night to remember for most of us, however, for others, things ended on a rather sour note. A number of fans were mugged after leaving the venue on Sunday evening and the early hours of Monday morning. Scores of people took to Twitter to share their horrific experiences.
Canceled trips, roads closed, not enough traffic officers, no security patrol. People got harassed, mugged and there was lots of fighting. Very sad after that amazing show #GlobalCitizenFestivalSA— Rami Chuene (@ramichuene)
I had so much fun last night but hey the security Outside when we were waiting for rides was terrible. Oir females were being mugged and we had to take matters in our hands because we didn't receive any assistance from our officers. So sad #GlobalCitizenFestivalSA— Patrone el Chepe (@Sediks_Leroux)
Taking to Twitter, Global Citizen shared: "After such an inspiring evening, we are saddened to hear the challenges people had while leaving the venue. We have been working to support people getting home safely."
This was followed by a three-part tweet, which encouraged people to report any crime they might have experienced on Sunday night.
It's great that people shared their experiences online, and we hope that these criminals get caught.
