Barely three months after we crowned the 2018 winner Yanga Sobetwa, the hunt for the 2019 Idol will be kicking off in South Africa.
This year’s audition dates have already been announced and fans of the show will be eager to follow the action when the first episodes make their way to television. The 15th season of the popular singing competition will also be taking its search for talent father and wider than ever.
The auditions are kicking off early this year, with each round taking place in a different, major South African city. Mzansi Magic announced on their website that auditions will be held in:
26 January 2019 - Pretoria - State Theatre
9 February 2019 - Durban - North Beach Amphitheatre
16 February 2019 - Johannesburg - Ellis Park
2 March 2019 - Cape Town - Century City
While this is exciting news, it felt as if residents from smaller cities and towns were overlooked once again. Where’s the love for East London or Bloemfontein? What about Kimberly? Don’t even mention Hammanskraal…
Luckily, for the first time in recent memory, many of these local territories will be looked after and singers from these towns will also have a chance to showcase their talent in front of the country. According to Idols and Telkom, a pop-up audition stall will be making its way around Mzansi this year:
This is certainly a great move for all involved and hopefully, it gives people in the most remote locations of the country a chance to realise their dreams.
If you were (or are!) auditioning for SA Idols, which song would you choose?
