Well, one of Mzansi's respected Maskandi musician, Mbuzeni Mkhize has his ancestors to thank for his latest stint in his illustrious career, as it is clear that they are working on overdrive to catapult one of their own to greater heights regarding his music career.
The Maskandi artist from the rural parts of Mkomazi in Kwa Zulu Natal has been roped in to collaborate with American Grammy award winning musician, Rihanna Fenty on a song which is set to feature on both their respective albums. The recording of the song will reportedly take place in December 2019.
Mbuzeni was attending to his performing duties in Turkey, whilst a member of Rihanna's camp took a video of him doing his thing on stage. What happened thereafter is what many would regard as "pure luck".The promoter then showed the video to Riri(Wow just like that?). Well... she must have been immensely impressed with Mbuzeni's homebrewed talent and unique sound because, the camp wasted no time in initiating contact with him thus sealing the deal.
According to Sowetan, Mbuzeni was quoted as saying:
"Rihanna could have chosen any person to work with her. But she choose me out of hundreds of maskandi artists. For that, I am honoured and humbled. I thank my ancestors for the gift [of singing]......This is a big thing for South Africa and for maskandi as a whole. This shows that my music is taken seriously wherever I perform."
The song is already being slowly cooked in the studio but all shall be thoroughly completed in December. It seems this collaboration was written in the stars hence Mbuzeni had composed his own version of Rihanna's hit single, Diamonds in previous years..
The international market is seemingly parched for some of that motherland musical flavour and we got loads of it.
Mbuzeni has been quietly dominating and infiltrating the international side of the market. He has performed in various cities including, India, China, Moscow and many others.
