Last month, Cyclone Idai left millions devastated. The intense tropical cyclone was one of the worst tropical cyclones to affect Africa and the Southern Hemisphere as a whole in recent history. The long-lived storm lasted almost 3 weeks and caused catastrophic damage in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi. The storm left more than 800 people dead and hundreds more are missing.

Mi Casa front man turned restauranteur, J'Something, is urging fans to do whatever they can to assist those left devastated by the storm. The Portugal born performer has friends and family affected by the storm's hit in Mozambique so this hits home for him. The group decided to join forces once again to take action. MiCasa launched a crowd funding initiative in the wake of the colossal natural disaster.

The tropical storm tore through coastal city of Beira on the 14th of March. Many had to wait for up to a week until emergency services to reach them. More than 600,000 people have been affected by the devastation with the death toll reaching 738 as of Saturday. Those rescued have been moved to relief camps where they must now try to rebuild their lives.

In a lengthy Instagram J-Something decided to open up to his fans about how he was so deeply effected by the destruction. "Half of my family is Mozambican so when I heard and saw the images and videos of what Cyclone Idai did, my heart shattered in pieces. I knew I needed to do something." he shared.

To kick off the crowd funding efforts, Mi Casa has donated their payment from performing at the Moments of Jazz festival in Maputo last weekend to The Gift of the Givers Foundation, which is one of the charities providing relief to victims.

"I wanna encourage all of you that follow me to get involved with us to try and raise R500, 000 to donate to Gift of the Givers. No Gift is too small." pleaded J'. To donate, visit the donation page here.

The group has managed to raise nearly R40,000 since Friday.
