The long legal saga of Jub Jub and his friend, who killed and injured several school children while drag racing in Soweto, was well-publicised. As were rumors that Jub Jub, real name Molemo Maarohanye, was having problems paying his lawyer. While the gosple/hip hop artist and co-accused Themba Tshabalala stood trial, behind the scenes there were murmurs of money problems and at one point his lawyer Ike Motloung refused to represent Jub Jub due to outstanding fees.
Late in the case Jub Jub changed lawyers to Rudi Krause, who defended Blue Bulls player Bees Roux. Roux infamously killed a metro police officer during a drunken driving incident, but avoided jail with a plea deal Jub Jub’s family said the change was made because Krause had more experience with this kind of case. But others speculated it was because Motloung was owed money.
According to JustCurious.co.za, Motloung is now suing Jub Jub and his family for nearly R350,000. There has been no official confirmation comment from either side, but it appears that the top lawyer is still owed quite a bit. Jub Jub and Tshabalala were convicted and sentenced to jail for 25 years for the drug-fueled accident.
