There has been a lot of excitement in the build-up to Black Brain Picture's third season of their highly acclaimed prison drama, Lockdown, and the excitement continues following the release of the character bios for the new additions to the cast.
What we know thus far is that American actress, Tichina Arnold will be joining the cast, there will finally be a Lockdown soundtrack and Thembi Nyandeni will be the latest veteran actress added to the team. Now, we can tell you exactly who everyone will be playing:
Pauletta Scott, an inmate who is locked up following a business deal that goes wrong with a former business associate. Fans of the show will know by now that Monde (played by Zola Nombona), is in a bit of hot water with diamond smugglers and Pauletta will play into that storyline.
She'll be playing Phindi Mazibuko - a naïve, idealistic criminal psychologist who believes that all evil can be redeemed. The most interesting part about her character however is that she is the daughter of the show's Minister of Correctional Services, Minister Mazibuko, who will be played by Thembi Nyandeni. "Mazibuko is hardcore — except when it comes to her daughter, for whom she will do anything," explained the production house.
Mazibuko has been assigned to Thabazimbi (the prison) to get things under control following a prison break which saw Monde find her way out of jail.
Zim Zim aka. The Butcher is a serial killer, who has a fascination with body parts and operating on people.
She will be playing the role of Azania, a student activist imprisoned in Thabazimbi along with two fellow activists for arson and malicious damage to national property.
Khulu Skenjana will portray Mingus, a career criminal.
The show makes its return on 8pm on Mzansi Magic (channel 161) — and good news for fans is that its old characters are still a big part of the third season.
