The new release, which is a collaboration between the DJ and Amapiano hitmaker, Kabza de Small (who has had his own drama to deal with) but fans feel as if Maphorisa has appropriated the genre with this body of work.
Fans appear to be split into two camps with this EP; there are those who are in love with the music, the beats and the collaboration - and then those who feel as if DJ Maphorisa is not only capitalising on Kabza's fame but are also very critical of the music itself.
On the latter point, let's talk about one of the EP's hit singles, Dubai. Many critics believe that the track, which seems to be a new blessees anthem, is actually promoting incest:
And then there's the actual collaboration itself. With DJ Maphorisa's brand growing on an annual basis, many people might have felt as if he was assisting Kabza De Small; but it turns out that some fans feel as if the DJ is using his younger counterpart to remain relevant.
After growing tired with the complaints and criticism, DJ Maphorisa finally took to social media to hit back on the shade when he said, "[sic] Everyone wants a peace of Scorpion Kings. Haters want it down on platforms. Guys are jealous saying I am using Kabza. Why all this hate while everyone loves this project Since Kabza started working with me has he ever missed a gig? So we don't deserve it?".
