You can look at yourself in the mirror each morning and still fail to see how quickly ageing creeps up on us. Today I came face-to-face with the realization that I have grown old.

Do you remember Zolisa Xaluva as Jason Malinga on Generations? Remember the iconic kiss with Senzo Dlomo? The kiss was a trailblazer for subsequent same-sex kisses on Mzansi television. Thanks to the bravery of Generations creator, Mfundi Vundla, by the time Rosie Motene and Tango Ncetezo munched on each other’s lips on Zabalaza, the novelty had already worn off. Xaluva’s character was a young, charming ad industry professional – underscore “young”.

I feel as though I have woken from a long coma, because now “Jason” – in a recent investment TV advert – plays a money-conscious old man who teaches his son the importance of saving. Although he is two years from 40, Xaluva plays this old man role pretty convincingly.

Speaking of Generations, I am again reminded of just how old we all are, thanks to this picture of a young Menzi Ngubane.

If there were any doubts about the rate at which time flies, you only have to remember that Dineo Nchabaleng – everybody’s dream daughter, as little Angela on Generations – is now old enough for playing a lovemaking scene on Ring of Lies. It still takes some getting used to it, if like me, you are still stuck on the sweet little girl who made us all wish we had 12-year-old daughters, you should know that actress is now a mom.
