Will #TheRiver clean out again?

Nominations for the 14th annual South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas) have been announced. The prestigious awards will take place in Johannesburg on 27 and 28 March respectively, at the Sandton Convention Centre under the theme #LoveSATalent.

The annual television awards ceremony is hosted by the National Film and Video Foundation, to honour creative excellence in the local film and television industry as assessed by the volunteer judges

This year the NFVF spent two months in a gruelling and hotly contested selection process with 205 industry heavyweights from across the country to select 70 categories.

The leader of the pack this year is popular telenovela The River which bagged 15 nods across numerous categories including Best Achievement in Directing, Scriptwriting, Original Music/Score, Editing, Sound, Cinematography, Wardrobe, Make-Up and Hairstyling, and Art Directing.

Isibaya and prison drama series Lockdown season 4 and feature film Fiela se Kind all clinched 11 nominations each, The Republic secured 11 nominations.

The telenovela’s stars Sindi Dlathu and Presley Chweneyagae secured nominations in the Best Actress and Best Actor categories respectively and seem to be the fan-favourite.
