Nonhle Thema did announce that she was done with fame, so her retirement from the entertainment industry comes as no surprise to us. The once TV "IT" girl achieved many things that many of us can only dream of doing, we reflect on her career; that inspired many "TV IT" girls to believe that anything is possible.
Although Nonhle went through a rough patch in her career and received a lot of backlash from not only the public but her peers in the industry we can't deny the fact that at some point, Nonhle ran the local entertainment industry as if it were her mother's spaza shop, and we mean that in the most positive of lights.
Nonhle has quite a number of impressive achievements under her name.
Like when she set the bar by being the first ever presenter for O Access. Let's not lie to be the first presenter of a show of such magnitude was a big deal back then. We can only imagine the envy of all aspiring presenters at that time when they watched Nonhle rub shoulders with the likes of Chris Brown and other international stars.
Someone sent me this..WOW this is a proper #throwback .I think @chrisbrownofficial was only 17 years old here. .feels like a million years ago I used to host this show OAccess..👌💖💐 #GreatMemories of a Life well lived and a journey well travelled with all its ups and downs .#TVHost #MyFormerLife 😊😊😊😍😍😍😆😆😆😆 I had mad fun in my 20s👌 I got to travel the world for free and hang out with super stars and get paid for it..not too shabby if I may say so myself 😎😎😎 #Blessed #ThankYouLord
And just when we thought Nonhle was done she proved us wrong by spreading her wings to be the presenter of VUZU. Remember how she would start and end all her VUZU links with this famous line:
"Welcome to V entertainment your portal to all things entertainment" She would then end off the link by blowing a kiss...sigh..those were the days.
Nonhle alongside other local reality shows like The Repertoires and Cream Cartel was the first presenter to have her own reality show Nonhle goes to Hollywood, which unfortunately did not do well and lead to her infamous meltdown.
This did not keep Nonhle down though, she joined her veteran actress mother Cynthia Shange in acting by landing a role on Mzansi magic's Zabalaza.
She then followed the likes of Connie Ferguson and launched her very own fragrance Precious Ivy.
Something she'll never retire from and a job she probably enjoys the most is motherhood and with being a mom Nonhle has made a career out of it as she is currently a motivational speaker, and part of the Yummy Mommy support group seminar for mothers.
Ms Thema was also the face of one of the largest cosmetic houses in the world, Dark 'n Lovely, she dethroned international singer Kelly Rowland. This huge achievement made Nonhle the ultimate "IT" girl of South Africa.
Can you guys believe that as I was announced as the face of Dark and Lovely it was supposed to be the happiest thing that happened to me...but I was suffering from depression during all that time of my life this was 2009....I didn't know I was suffering from the sickness depression. ..only found out later in life after my meltdown. ..gosh 😟
Far from the shade throwing Nonhle we used to know, Ms Thema has grown to be more of an appreciative woman who celebrates the achievements of other women in the industry.
Two days ago Nonhle gave a shout out to Bonang Matheba who is currently the go-to girl when it comes to TV presenting and event hosting a position that once belonged to Nonhle.
