Owami Mafokate follows in her parents footsteps
Her father was known as the Kwaito King whereas her mom was the lead singer of Afro pop group – Abashantee back in the 90’s.

And now, at the tender age of 16 and in grade 11, Owami is finding her own identity in the world and also, without realising it, is stepping out of her parent’s shadow.

DJ Owami is a resident DJ on YoTV and appears on the youth show every Friday.

If she’s not on YoTV she’s sharpening her skills as a young and upcoming D.J.

She gets taught by her older brother – A.J Mafokate on an occasional basis.

According to Sowetan Live article, Owami decided to pursue being a DJ as her parents Arthur Mafokete and Sesoko formerly known as Queen are not too convinced about her being a singer.

“I have been singing since I was a kid but my parents don’t really want me to do it. They, however, support me by taking me for lessons,” she said.

We have a good feeling that DJ Arch Jnr and maybe even DJ Owami will be the next generation of DJ Tira’s and DJ Zinhle’s of this world.
