After body shaming Wits students who were protesting half naked during the #FeesMustFall protests. Students have issued a petition to be signed to get Skhumba off air until he apologizes.
Comedian, Skhumba, has found himself in hot water after releasing an Instagram video body shaming the three ladies by the name of Sarah Mokwebo, Hlengiwe Patricia Ndlovu and Lerato Motaung after they protested half naked during the current #FeesMustFall protests.
In the video Skhumba shames the woman on their droopy breasts, stretch marks and bellies.
Although some may have laughed at the video, others lambasted Skhumba for his comments.
The released petition read:
"We, the undersigned, call for the removal of Skhumba Hlope from Kaya FM until he publicly apologises to all women in this country and in particular to Sarah Mokwebo, Hlengiwe Patricia Ndlovu and Lerato Motaung.......While we completely support freedom of expression, Skhumba's comments are part of institutionalising the policing of women's bodies and reinforcing their idea that they exist for public consumption.
By taking him off air, until he publicly apologises, Kaya FM will be sending a firm signal to us all that the station does not endorse such views."
Skhumba has a segment on Kaya FM's 180 with Bob and is quite popular with listeners. The segment is also quite popular on YouTube with over a hundred thousand views on each video.
Kaya FM and Skhumba are yet to comment on the released petition.
The petition has received 1000 signatures thus far.
