Johannesburg mayor, Herman Mashaba recently came through with his resignation from the party. While he may not be a very popular politician in these streets, his unexpected move took many by surprise.
Yesterday, Mzansi's political landscape was shaken when a prominent politician announced his resignation - Mmusi Maimane.
During a press conference yesterday, the Soweto-born politician announced that he has stepped down as the DA leader. However, he did mention that he will continue to serve the party, and South Africa at large, by staying on as member of parliament.
An announcement such as this one is bound to set Twitter alight - this is why #MmusiMaimane was the number one trending topic for hours on end.
In a turn of events, Mmusi has changed his mind and has announced that he is officially resigning from the DA and as a member of parliament.
Our celebrities have faced a lot of backlash for only passionate about issues pertaining the Arts, but some of them have displayed their political stances and shared their views (on occassion) when it comes to issues that are political.
The DA's federal chair, Trollip Atholl, also followed suit shortly after Mmusi announced his resignation as party leader.
