DSTV channel, Mzansi Magic, has come forward to refute claims that they have closed a multi-million Rand deal that would give them rights to air a live broadcast of media personality, Somizi Mhlongo's wedding to his partner Mohale.
In a report published by Sunday Sun, the publication claimed an informant told them that the SA Idols judge had signed a deal worth R3 million with the channel for something never-before-seen in South African entertainment.
The report cited multiple sources who all seemed to be saying the same thing, adding that Mhlongo, who has two shows on the channel (Living The Dream With Somizi and SA Idols) and is a DSTV compact brand ambassador would also be getting a cut of the advertising revenue for ads aired during the live special.
The same report did cite a quote from M-Net head of marketing and publicity, Nondumiso Mabece in which she denied the existence of the deal but said they would be open to airing such an event. “Somizi Mhlongo is a member of the Mzansi Magic family. We don’t have a contract to broadcast his wedding, but we’d be honoured to share in the celebration of his special day,” explained Mabece.
According to Drum, Mhlongo also denied these claims on his Metro FM breakfast show, The Fresh Breakfast, stating “write anything about anyone but let it be factual because it destroys a whole lot of families.”
We're sad that there will not be a wedding special but we will choose to focus on the positives at this point, which include the fact that Mzansi Magic didn't totally shut down the idea.
