Terry Pheto nominated alongside Oprah Winfrey

When it comes to going from strength to strength, Terry Pheto just won't quit! The actress has now been nominated for an award for her portrayal of Winnie Mandela in the BET mini-series titled 'Madiba' which she starred in alongside Laurence Fishburne in the titular role of Madiba.

The mini-series, which aired in the US earlier this year as part of Black History Month, was a three-part, six-hour show.  

It was is based on two Mandela autobiographies - "Conversations With Myself" and "Nelson Mandela by Himself." In addition to detailing the early years of the icon's journey, "the series reveals behind-the-scenes strategizing and bold tactics he and his collaborators used to bring attention to their movement, both domestically and internationally," according to IMDB.  

The show also reportedly pays homage to many lesser known men and women who made sacrifices toward South Africa's quest for freedom.

In Madiba, Pheto plays the beloved mother of the nation, Mam'Winnie Madikizela.

Pheto was also nominated for a Best Supporting Actress award for her portrayl of Naledi Khama in last year's A United Kingdom. 

And now, she will go head to head against the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Nia Long, Sanaa Lathan and Loretta Devine in the first Annual Black Reel Awards for Television as they wait to find out who snags the Outstanding Actress -TV Movie/Limited Series award. 

The nominees were actually announced about a month ago and the winners will be announced on Thursday, August 3, 2017 in the USA. 

Ma' Winnie, who is said to love Terry Pheto must be as proud as we are.
