We at ZAlebs. com will be coming to you LIVE from the SAFTAs13 Red Carpet tomorrow at 6pm via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram! Follow us now and get all your fave's look direct off the red carpet - like we did for the #RoastOfAKA.
But before all the star-studded action begins (and we find out if The River will take home the whopping 17 awards they're nominated for), we need to get a bit excited, you know. It's one of our biggest red carpet events so the pressure is on. Here is what we hope to see more of this year...
Colour and Print
The red carpet can get a bit monotonous with everyone leaning towards going for the same trending colours. That's why it's always so refreshing to see someone playing with colour and prints in a big way.
In 2017, Masechaba Ndlovu made a huge statement with this lilac and multi coloured stripe ballgown paired with gold traditional-inspired accessories. Everyone almost loved it but the poor construction of the top left people rather disappointed. Let's hope she has better luck this year.
Last year, Mmabatho Montsho wore this all over leopard print number. The details of the layered collar and the figure belt were the perfect touch to elevate this design. Given that this print is still trending on the runways, we wouldn't be mad to see someone else it on for the look tomorrow night. Will anyone kill it like Mmabatho did??
What is a red carpet without the drama? We want it all! We want the most unnecessary and over dramatic gowns possible. The gowns dreams are made of! But I hope someone warns our faves not to take it toooo far or else they'll just look absolutely ridiculous.
Thando Thabethe gave us all the drama we deserve in this gown by House Of Uys. The ballgown is made up of a beaded corset top and a feathered ball skirt. She styled it up with a braided top bun and simple diamond accessories. This look was one of her hosting looks for the night but we so wish to see more of this on the red carpet.
Last year, Khanyi Mbau also served up a different kind of drama. Listen, you can never be boring with a huge butterfly wing following you around! We loved this look for the very dramatic train. If you're going to do a train on your gown then you have to go big or go home! It can't be a flimsy piece of fabric dragging along behind you. To get it right, take a few tips from the icon herself.
Stepping Out of the Box
So red carpets can get boring as well - like an hour long parade of dress after dress can get. That is why we appreciate stars who mix things up a bit and give us looks outside the norm.
In 2017, Somizi reminded us that a suit doesn't have to be boring! It's usually men who play it safe on the red carpet with a black tuxedo and bow tie but are we not tired? We want to see our male faves having fun with their looks. This sequined suit he paired with matching sneakers and bold costume jewelry was a welcomed breath of fresh air.
Also in 2017, Blue Mbombo opted for a one shoulder lace jump suit with an over skirt train. We love this idea for the red carpet because why not? There are so many other cuts and silhouettes out there to have fun with outside long gowns. We hope to see a few other stars following her footsteps.
We can't wait to see what your faves have prepared for the red carpet, can you?
