The Lion King Poster Is Out But Without John Kani

The Lion King Poster Is Out But Without John Kani

This past Monday, the official Disney's Lion King social media pages grabbed our attention when they released the cast photo of the live action movie, due to come out in cinema on Friday, July 19th (US release date).

But although the photograph is seamless and flawless (shout to Beyonce), social media pin pointed that a certain someone is missing from the class photo.

The photo drew widespread questions about the exclusion of veteran South African thespian John Kani, and veteran US actor James Earl Jones, who will voice Mufasa in the film- who also voiced the same character in the original animation.

Kani,  who has received accolades around the world for his work and starred in several Hollywood films, will voice Rafiki in the film that opens next week in cinemas.

While US Twitter was zoning in on James' exclusion, local fans were demanding to know where John was.

Disney has yet to explain the actors' absence and social media has remained abuzz, with John topping the local trends list on Monday evening.

So what's really good, Disney?

Hopefully, there's a second release of an official picture from the legends alone. But if not, we'll be at the cinemas ready to support one of our most beloved exports and legends, John Kani.
