The creative industry is known for its fickleness and unpredictability. It is therefore inevitable for some of our media personalities to create their own work opportunities to sustain themselves.

Bossing up is one helluva task which requires dedication, discipline and a strong work ethic. Some creatives have woken up to the fact that not all is fun and games; the creative industry is exciting but there is a lot of hard work that go behind the scenes.

Below are just some of our much-loved and well-known media personalities that have made the transition from waiting for gigs to creating work.

When the television and radio host made her exit from SABC 3’s Real Talk, some of us wondered about her next move. Anele would then go on to announce that she has started her own television production company with her colleagues from 94.7 FM. There have been snippets of the behind the scenes images on Anele’s Instagram feed, which left a ton of her followers yearning to watch this body of work on television.

Thembi Seete and Mbali Nkosi

Nasty C

The year 2018 truly belongs to this 21-year-old. Shortly after releasing his new album, he announced that he will be operating under his own record label, Tall Racks Records. It seems being an Indie artist is the way to go.

From actor to executive producer, now that is a serious boss move, especially in a country like Mzansi. Leleti serves as both the EP and actor on e.tv’s Imbewu: The Seed.

Jr

Jr’s Feel Good Live Sessions finally made it onto our television screens. We are just glad that the musician saw the bigger picture in taking his project on a viable platform such as TV.
