Thuso Mbedu’s talent is one that cannot be ignored. The star has been nominated for two Emmy International Awards and has acted in local shows like Is’thunzi, Liberty, Shuga and will now be acting in an Amazon Original.

Thuso took to social media to announce that her resume has moved into the international spot light with her new role in Amazon’s new series The Underground Railroad.

“My thumb and neurons are failing me right now so I'll just do as most South Africans do when this happens: I GOT THE JOB!!!! It was such an amazing process and experience. Like, true story, just prepping to audition for this role made me grow so much. It's such a blessing and honour to tell this story... Again, words fail me so I'll stop there for now,” she shared on Instagram.

Thuso will star as Cora the daughter of Mabel and Grayson born on a plantation and is known for her fiery spirit. Her co-stars include Chase W. Dillon who acts on BET series “First Wives Club”, and Aaron Pierre who is in the sci-fi series “Krypton”.

The series boasts 11 one-hour long episodes in its first season and will be directed by Oscar Award winning screenplay writer Barry Jenkins.

“The Underground Railroad Chronicles follows the young Cora’s journey as she makes a desperate bid for freedom in the antebellum South. After escaping her Georgia plantation for the rumored Underground Railroad, Cora discovers no mere metaphor, but an actual railroad full of engineers and conductors, and a secret network of tracks and tunnels beneath the Southern soil.”

We are so proud of Thuso. We can’t wait to grab the popcorn and binge watch an international series with a South African lead. #Amazonandchill
