Your Guide to Tropika Island of Treasure Season 8

Ever since Reeva Steenkamp’s passing thrust season 5 of Tropika Island of Treasure into the limelight (as it was one of the last things she did before she was killed), season 6 and 7 enjoyed fairly little fanfare from viewers.

But that is all set to change as the powers that be went back to the drawing board to rework the show and bring it back for yet another season with a few changes. The first of which was the fact that Katlego Maboe would be taking over from Minnie Dlamini and Jonathan Boynton-Lee as both Games Master and host of the show.

“I did as much preparation as I could in understanding who I was dealing with in my contestants… the format of the show itself and the games involved and in the absence of trying not to emulate too many of the people I’ve seen in the past, I was trying to just put MY mark on the show,” said Maboe.

He added that those who have seen him on the Expresso morning show on SABC know that he is the crazy energetic one who likes to have fun and that is what he wanted to maintain on #TIOT8 after the decision to combine the roles of Games Master and host.

What has remained the same however is the fact that there would be 7 celebrity contestants paired with 7 Tropika consumers - the only difference being that the teams had no idea who their partners would be ahead of the show.

The 7 famous faces that will be competing this season are Khanya Mkangisa, Brendan Peyper, Sbahle Mpisane, Nay Maps, Tumi Voster, Melinda Bam, and Karabo Mogane.

As some of you may know, the show goes on an annual nationwide search in order to provide the public the opportunity to compete alongside the famous faces and the season 8 contestants who will join them at The Adaaran resorts and villas in the Maldives are as follows:

Melinda Bam said that the main lesson she took away from it all was the lesson of learning to consider a win for one as a win for all while Sbahle says the importance  of a positive mindset is what she is taking away from #TIOT8. We have an incredibly diverse mix of celebrities and contestants who will compete in all new and awesome challenges on one of the most beautiful islands on earth. Will there be excitement? Yes.
