Tumi Molekane shouts out rap talent with his 2016 Verse of the Year list

Tumi is the new ambassador

It's that time of the year again. No, not 'ke Dezemba boss,' 'iBig Days' or as we darkies like to call it 'iFestive,' we mean that time of the year when people compile lists of things that happened throughout the year.

True to his nature as a rapper and authority in the game, Tumi 'Stogie T' Molekane, took the time out to give props to some of South Africa's rap talent who murked verses this year.

Rouge came in at number 10 on the list and as the only female on it, we're disappointed that she didn't rank higher, but given Molekane's explanation in the caption, we totally get where he's coming from.

OkMalumkoolkat is number 9 for his verse on Don Dada

Ginger Trill's verse on David Genaro earned him the number 8 spot.

AKA (whom Molekane calls "one of SA's better pens), comes in at number 7 for his second verse on Dreamwork. We wonder if he'll take this spot or tell Tumi to 'voetsek' too....?

Reezus comes in at number 6.

N'veigh's Denneboom verse got him the number 5 spot.

Reason's Yipikayay is a jam of note, but it's surprising that the hottest verse on the song (according to Molekane) was Khuli Chana's

Cassper comes in at number 3 for his verse on 'Ngud but this is one we strongly disagree with. Has Tumi not heard Cassper on Gemini Major's 'Ragga Ragga'?

Young homie, Nasty C is at number 2 for his verse on the Juice Back remix.

Aaaaand the number one spot goes to.... Idols presenter and rap veteran, ProVerb.

He prefaced the countdown by giving honourable mentions to young talent such as Buks (from rap duo Betr Gang), YoungstaCPT (who Molekane is a vocal fan of), K.O on Don Dada, Cassper Nyovest's Sway in the Morning freestyle (which is what we think Molekane mans when he calls it 'Same Chair as Kanye'), Shane Eagle and Big Star Johnston.

Honorable Mentions Buks - Stripes Probably the best producer rapping in South Africa. As one half of the outfit BETR gang Buks can hold his own against the dope Solo. On Stripes though he seems a seasoned practitioner and his glow is mistakenly bright. YoungstaCPT - NowOrNeverRemix Hard to argue against what he does on this verse, his delivery is pure fuego and one has to salute his insistence on carving out his own lane in with this style but it's a case of more of the same from the undisputed King Of Cape Town. K.O - Don Dada verse 2 Mrcashtime has mastered this much loved s'kanda style of his but as genius as his invention was you get the sense he can do much more with it. Cassper Nyovest - Same Chair As Kanye Probably Cassper's best lyrical display to date. He showed us there is a real pen in him. He over achieved here but still a tad short of great. Shane Eagle - Cutting Corners Great emotional candor shown here. Shane Eagle has proven he is capable of rapping with beasts but it's in moments like these where he separates himself. Big Star Johnson - NowOrNeverRemix A rapper being a rapper. Over did it a little towards the end where one couldn't make out the words. But no discounting his quality.
