Following a twar (Twitter war) between the duo earlier this year, Sunday World reports that new police minister Fikile Mbalula has filed a lawsuit against Metro FM DJ and sport personality, Robert Marawa.
The twar began after Times Media Group Sports, Editor Mninawa Ntloko, tweeted that Mbalula had hinted that Durban could lose the 2022 Commonwealth Games due to cost challenges.
Mbalula subsequently sent Marawa a letter of demand asking him to apologise to the minister which Marawa reportedly ignored (according to the minister). Marawa then told the paper that he had never received such a document.
The minister's counsel, from a firm called Maluleke, Msimang and Associates, confirmed to Sunday World that they were taking Marawa to the South Gauteng High Court for remarks that he has reportedly been making about their client over the past two years.
"We are not suing him for money but to clear the good name of our client. Whether we are demanding R1 or R10-million is immaterial. Ultimately the court will decide on the amount that is suitable to ameliorate the damage. The principle here is that allegations like that our client wanted the SABC to fire Mr Marawa were made and we would like that to be retracted because our client never said that," said one of the firm's partners Mikateko Shirilele.
He also added that the minister is still open to the idea of mediation between himself and Marawa and merely filed a suit to get his attention and prove how serious he is about wanting that apology.
