Yesterday saw the first episode in MTV’s annual two-part hottest MC’s countdown and as expected, viewers were up in arms over what position their faves scored on the list.

Hosted by Idols presenter and famed emcee, ProVerb, alongside a panel consisting of Slikour, Amu, Spoken Priestess, Rashid Kay and and DJ Capital the group got together to compile a definitive list of local rappers who have had a great year both in terms of music, contributing to the culture and either establishing or solidifying a brand.
The criteria they used to reach their decision included, impact, lyrics, sales, buzz and intangibles.
Gigi Lamayne and Maraza were the first to make it on to the list in a tied position at number 10 - a spot which eventually went to Lamayne, OkMalumkoolkat came in at number 9 followed by A-Reece at number 8. Fifi Cooper and Riky Rick were at number 7 and 6 respectively.

In addition to the disagreements at the round table, there were disagreements on the Twitter streets (naturally).
It even came from MTV themselves…
But, like Slikour, many of you weren't feeling Rashid Kay. Your responses were EVERYTHING
#SAHottestMCs | @rashid_kay doesn't think @okmalumkoolkat is an MC, but he says he's a rapper. Your thoughts?? pic.twitter.com/fImc3yy1Zq
