#WCW SABC News Anchor - Chante Jaintjies

Last night saw SABC News anchor, Chante Jaintjies charm viewers of SABC 3's #WTFTumi following her appearance on the show alongside Shashi Naidoo.

It also left many asking who she is in an effort to get to know her better following her interview with DJ Fresh who hosted the show as part of what has been dubbed as "an exciting venture and collaboration with Metro FM’s DJ Fresh" who is standing in for Tumi Morake while she is away on her 'Tumi or Not Tumi' one-woman-show in Australia.

But back to the woman at hand...

Jantjies is mixed race - born to a black Xhosa mother and Scottish-Italian white father.

You may recognize her from her stint as Miss South Africa Teen back in 2009. She was recently chosen as a semi-finalist for Miss SA 2018 but she unfortunately, didn't make it into the top 12.

She is no stranger to pageants as she has been competing since she was a little girl and has always wanted to enter Miss SA.

"It's an incredible platform of influence and a leadership role that I would like to contribute to in collaboration with my own initiatives. Essentially one is a representative of the country and a public servant. I think it’s important to have women leaders and young women at that, in these types of roles to change the narrative that the youth can’t make a considerable difference and more so that if one is in a position to contribute positively, one should do so," explained Jantjies in an interview on blog, Just Jody

Like her pageant career, Jantjies also began pursuing a career in broadcasting from a young age. Her first TV job was as a kids presenter on KTV at age 14. Four years later, she became a news anchor at the now-defunct ANN7 when she was 18. In fact, she got her job in a very serendipitous way...

"I had initially auditioned for a lifestyle presenter position when the channel started. The lifestyle programmes were then finalised to have less presenters than initially required. I was then moved to fill in reading 5 min weather. This was frustrating as I knew I had more to offer. This continued for 3 months or so . One morning I was then asked to go live on air when one of the anchors had an anxiety attack before due going on air due to the ongoing media pressure. I did. The rest, they say, is history," said Jantjies.

She left the channel, where she was working while she was studying, in September 2016.The 24-year-old joined the SABC towards the end of 2017 and has been working there ever since alongside Thabile Ngwato.

She also fills her time with modelling, auditioning and philanthropic work and she reads and books herself into spas on days when she needs to unplug and chill out.
