When Mabala Noise shook the nation

Mabala Noise

In the beginning of the year, the majority of South African's did not know who or what Mabala Noise was. But in the middle of winter we had all become accustomed to the record label.

After a long list of artists such as the likes of Riky Rick, Nasty C, Major League DJz, Zola 7, Gigi Lamayne, L'Vovo, DJ Bongz, DJ Finzo, Pro, Du Boiz, Letoya Makhene, Khanyi Mbau, Mbali Nkosi, Kay Sibiya, Ms Jonez, Jay Spitter, and Zakwe.

Nearly half of the country asked itself, 'Who on earth is Mabala Noise? But most importantly who owns it?'

South Africa was surprised at how Mabala Noise basically signed...well..almost everyone!

The record company had a very impressive roster of artists, especially fairly new musicians such as the likes of Nasty C and Duboiz who were and still are doing exceptionally well in the music industry.

However, not long after their artist announcement, the company then had their first taste of bad publicity, after E.F.F leader, Julius Malema claimed that the founder of Mabala Noise & ANC Youth League Treasurer Reggie Nkabinde had allegedly paid artists "no less than R5million" to sign to the group and perform at ANC rally's.

Speaking to Sowetan Live Reggie dismissed all those claims as lies.

"I think that the myth that has been created there about Mabala Noise paying artists five million is not correct and I must indicate it's totally a lie because what does it do? It suggests that our artists are cheap, can sell their souls to companies for R5million," said Nkabinde.

The claims made by Julius really did make people look at Mabala Noise some type of way but regardless of the drama, the artists have been doing well.

Duboiz went all the way to L.A to shoot a video with Tyga.

Riky Rick is still selling out shows and killing it when it comes to fashion. King Khotini is on another level these days and you can't match his fresh.

And Nasty C probably has the best local hip hop album in the country right now.

We guess we'll have to wait and see what Mabala noise has in store for us in 2017.
