Women we'd like to see on the cover of GQ South Africa

I've been reading GQ since I was 15 (yeah I know, I like things, that's why I work here) but now that I'm old enough to know better, upon reflection I have realized that I rarely saw women who looked like me in the magazine's pages, let alone on the cover.

Earlier today, SA's number one soccer babe, Minnie Dlamini revealed that she will be gracing the May cover of men's magazine GQ and when I tried to recall how many others like her have been on the cover, I drew a blank.

For some reason I was convinced that it may have been model, Joelle Kayembe at some point, but my search efforts have yielded no results. It turns out that I was confusing her stint as FHM's first black cover girl with a phantom GQ cover.

There have been black women on the cover of GQ South Africa before, just never South African women (but I could be wrong).

Time and time again, South African women have been counted among some of the world's most beautiful so why isn't there a long line of South African GQ cover girls that we can look back on? Do you know how epic Bonnie Mbuli would look on the cover rocking some borderline-androgynous-yet-still-sexy threads?

With that said, here are just a few of the South African women we'd like to see grace the cover of GQ South Africa.

Ayanda Thabethe

This woman is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L and stylish to boot. While she is yet to become a formidable actress, no one can deny that she's great to look at and after a few years on Top Billing while running a few businesses on the side, she'd surely have a good story to tell.

Only a blind man would be able to believably deny this Zulu girl's beauty and she's been living her best life as a blonde recently.

Three words: Thabooty Tha Booty! Plus she's got great taste in music so perhaps that could form the focus.

The bubbly beauty is a no-brainer for GQ cover star options. We're astonished they haven't already made it happen.

Whether she's clad in the trendiest threads or posed up in her birthday suit, Lalla always looks great and she's one of the few repping women of the Asian persuasion (we know you love that fellas, no need to lie).

and lastly we have...

Equal parts stylish, sexy, edgy, talented, intelligent and beautiful, Bonnie's appeal as a GQ cover girl is the most undeniable of all.
