Earlier today, it was confirmed that 702 host, Xolani Gwala is officially in remission from colon cancer which he has been battling over the past nine months.
Gwala announced the heart-breaking news during an interview with Stephen Grootes last September where he also told his listeners that he would be taking some time out to work on fighting the cancer.
“It is going to be a very long fight, partly because it was advanced, a difficult fight but a fight I am ready for,” he said during the interview.
At the time, he had already removed a tumour in his colon but needed intensive chemotherapy and possibly additional surgery as the disease had spread to his liver.
Last month, his former colleague, Redi Thlabi, gave an update on his recovery, stating that he was doing well.
Speaking to Times Live, 702 station manager Thabisile Mbete stated "Xolani is in remission and is back at home recovering from his last operation. We are all looking forward to having him back on the station once he has recovered."
