This new (not-so-new) trend has broken the Internet but in a good way. Revealed yesterday as the latest #Summer17 trend (because it’s summer in the Northern hemisphere), the Internet naturally reacted to the “romphim” male romper with a ton of humor and enthusiasm.
The reason we say this trend is “not so new” is because the likes of Dr. Malinga and Cassper Nyovest have been rocking it long before it was cool.
Samkelo Ndlovu and Cassper Nyovest actually did the matching romper thing during her appearance on the first season MTV Base’s Lip Sync Battle Africa.

Although it’s not the most original idea in the world, especially in 2017, it has been hailed by America’s People magazine as the “brainchild” of some designers from Chicago.
In the South African context, it can actually traced as far back as i’sgudis s’naysi where Sdumo often customized his overalls as well as Trompies who are pioneers in a number of ways.

In fact, queer folk across the world (South Africa included) have unashamedly worn rompers for ages.
So only two questions remain;
Fellas, when #Summer17 hits South African shores, will you be buying your very own romper?
Ladies, are you feeling this trend? Let us know on social media @ZAlebs
