ZAlebville predictions for 2019

A lot is going to happen in entertainment this year.

Happy new year, family! I’d like to thank each one of you for continuing to support ZAlebs, and I hope that our relationship will grow even stronger in 2019.

The year is already off to a good start for a lot of our favourite stars like Bonang Matheba (new film coming up), Trevor Noah (he recently purchased a $20 million house) and A-Reece (invited to feature on Sway in the Morning). This is only the second week of the year, and our faves are already winning.

I don’t know what the future holds for our other stars, but there’s no crime in guessing what we might see in ZAlebville in 2019, right?

Cassper and AKA will probably not reconcile

Okay, I just wanted to get this one out of the way. We all know that these two don’t like each other, and it doesn’t look like they’re ever make music together (or be friends, really). If you’re expecting the award-winning rappers to sort out their differences, you might wait for a very long time.

Ntsiki Mazwai against the world

Another one that I need to get out of the way. Ntsiki has been fighting with the entire entertainment industry for the past couple of years. She’s attacked so many people including Bonang Matheba, Pearl Thusi, Lira (imagine), Leanne Mannas (seriously!) and everyone who was attacked at the Global Citizen Festival. So, the chances of Ntsiki toning it down a bit this year and leaving others alone are really slim.

Fake events

We're barely into the new year and we've already seen fake events being advertised. Someone thought it would be a great idea to lie about Drake coming to the country. I honestly thought people would stop doing this, especially after that International Women in Media Conference disaster. Oh, and don't even get me started on the infamous Tribe One Festival that never happened a few years ago.

International acts pulling a no-show

Ah, don't you just get excited when you hear that your favourite international act is coming to the country? Not all of us can afford to go overseas to watch our faves live on stage, so it's always a treat when they come to Mzansi. But for some reason, some of these artists tend to disappoint us.

Remember when Solange was supposed to come to Mzansi for the Afropunk Festival? Our hearts were broken when she announced that she was no longer coming. I suspect that we'll be seeing more of this in 2019.

International RnB has-beens gracing our shores

This one happens every single year. It's like South Africa is very welcoming when it comes to singers who haven't released any music in 10-20 years. For some reason, promoters love bringing people who no longer have that thing! I wonder who we're seeing this year? I bet it'll be a lot of people we've forgotten about!

More breakups?

Well, this is an obvious one. Just like any other relationship out there, celebrities couples also go through ups and downs. No one is immune to heartbreak, unfortunately, it’s just that celebs are in the spotlight which makes it extra difficult to deal with their breakups.

We’ll probably see many stars going their separate ways, and that’s fine, it’s part of life!

Thrilling local productions

If the last year is anything to go by, I'm confident in the fact that Mzansi will create more thrilling shows for viewers to enjoy. In 2018, we were introduced to new TV series such as The River, Housekeepers, Imbewu and many others. The game has changed and I can only hope that things will get better from here.

Red carpet slayage

I hope I’m not getting ahead of myself with this one. You’ve probably been disappointed by some of the outfits we’ve seen on the red carpet in the last couple of years. While some celebs take this seriously, others don’t seem to get it. I'm still hopeful, though. I believe that things will change in 2019, and that our faves will step up their game when it comes to big events. *Crossing fingers*

Baby season

So many celebrities, including Luthando “Lootlove” Shosha, Ntando Mthethwa and Zoleka Mandela revealed their pregnancies in 2018. Okay, maybe this isn’t a prediction, because the babies are coming, duh.

But still, I’m “predicting” that baby season will have many us feeling broody. Watch this space. Oh, and there'll probably be some pregnancy announcements too!

What else do you think is going to happen in ZAlebville in 2019?
