In a statement he said: "My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I'd like to apologise to the fans if I've let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart."
He added that the past five years have been beyond amazing. "We've been through so much together, so we will always be friends." In another statement, One Direction members said they're sad to see Zayn go, adding: "But we totally respect his decision and send him all our love for the future. The past five years have been beyond amazing, we're gone through so much together, so we will always be friends."
This means that his band members Niall Horan, Harry Styes, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlison with have to continue without him. They added that they look forward to recording their new album and seeing all their fans on the next stage of the tour.
We're sure a lot of people are not shocked by this. When they celebrated the launch of their fourth album last November, Zayne was missing in action.
During an appearance on the Today Show, the band was asked where he was and the response? Well, he apparently had a stomach bug. The US TV star responded by asking, "There have been rumours of substance abuse, what’s going on?"
Could it be that the alleged substance abuse rumours have something to do with his depature from the band?
