The Zulu tribe is generally known for exuding extreme pride and reverence to all things pertaining to its culture and customs.
One is reminded by a certain amusing incident, that was widely reported in regards to one of the Zulu surnames, Dhlomo in the old Generations on SABC 1. A certain local chief (with the same surname in real life) in the rural Kwa Zulu Natal wrote to the powers that be stating that the "disgraceful" and "disrespectful" portrayal of homosexual Senzo Dhlomo's character on the show was not called for in their council.
The powers that be had to make it clear to the seemingly upset chief that, Generations was merely fictional and none of the characters are real.
Although it is slightly in a different taste, the following incident, once again bares strong nuances of how much most Zulus get easily offended by other people's display of carelessness towards their culture.
Award winning rapper, Cassper Nyovest was never ready for the backlash that he received when he posted a picture of himself in his Zulu traditional gear at a traditional wedding recently.
The caption read 'Bayethe' instead of Bayede. A term used to show reverence to a King.
Boy did Cassper get dragged!... Check out the hilarious responses from the comments section:
