Khumalo has released her first album in five years, called ‘Higher and Higher’, which is also the title of one of Fassie’s top 80s hits.

The album includes a remix of the above mentioned song, plus a reworked rendition of her hit ‘Too Late for Mama’.

Speaking to the Sowetan, Khumalo explained that she included the Fassie songs on her album because she wants to “keep her spirit alive”.

“People know the original Too Late for Mama song as an emotional song, but the remix is different because I have been performing Brenda’s songs whenever I’m on stage because I used to work with her.”

‘Higher and Higher’ is Khumalo’s first album since 2008’s ‘I Wanna Sing My Life’, and she took her time to complete it because she wants it to be more successful than her others.

“The reason I say this album will do well is because I have worked with various producers and song writers,” said the singer.

“It is a dance album that will certainly cater for both young and old.”
