When the announcement was first made that Kelly Khumalo and Bahumi would play the two roles, fans were 'disappointed' that Bahumi got the role. Many believe that she lacks experience and that nepotism was at play.
The negativity did not deter the actress from pouring her heart and soul into the character that she needs to portray. She talked to BET about the fondest memory she has about the late Lebo Mathosa.
Bahumi says that Lebo was maternal and protective over her. She also says that Lebo was like a second mother, which allows her to uniquely portray the star as she was closer to her and could tell her most sincere, humble and emotional side.

Somgaga is never one to shy away from expressing his love and how proud he is of his daughter for landing the role of a lifetime.
Messages wishing the actress well and fans reminding her that she deserves the role flooded Bahumi's timeline. But one super fan leading pack was Somizi.
He took to Instagram to wish his daughter well and let the naysayers know that she deserved the role more than anyone. "It is not a coincidence. Not an accident. Not a mistake. No surprise. That you are playing this role. It was written in the stars from day one,"
He then further added, "take this role baby girl. Own it. Run with it. I’ll be cheering on the sidelines."
The actress will be playing alongside KB Motsilanyane, who will portray the older Lebo.
The mini-series Dream: The Lebo Mathosa Story premieres on BET Africa (DStv channel 129) on the 6th of November.
