Amanda du-Pont is celebrating a nomination at the second annual South African Voice-Over Awards, marking a new recognition for work she has continued quietly behind the scenes.
A new voice-over accolade
- The actress and media personality is in contention for Best Commercial Voice-over Performance on Radio.
- Her fellow nominees are Thato Moatlhodi, Brionne Olsen and Mthunzi Sibisi.
- Although du-Pont’s most recent major acting role was in the 2022 horror movie The Domestic, she has remained active in entertainment despite spending less time in the public eye.
- During that period, she continued recording commercial voice-overs and working as a brand partner on Vodacom’s digital campaigns and advertising.
Du-Pont said many people were unaware of her work behind the microphone. She explained that building several reliable income streams can be valuable, provided they do not pull someone away from their central purpose or compromise the quality of their main work. She also noted that, in the current climate, many people with traditional nine-to-five jobs are exploring entrepreneurship.
Building Lelive away from the spotlight
Alongside her entertainment commitments, du-Pont has devoted significant attention to expanding her skincare company, Lelive.
She said stepping back for roughly two and a half years gave her the privacy and concentration needed to grow the business substantially. In her view, completing a project successfully requires real focus, and the space from public life allowed her to give the company the attention it deserved.
Du-Pont added that watching the business develop into a success was exactly what she needed. The experience also gave her a sense of privacy that she found refreshing, saying she now feels like an ordinary person and enjoys that feeling.
Return to television and film
- Du-Pont is preparing to return to the small screen through Tropika Island of Treasure, which is scheduled to air this month.
- She has also disclosed that a Netflix feature film involving her is expected to premiere soon.
- With her company now largely automated, she feels ready to reconnect with acting and television. She said she prefers to handle each project properly and is excited to return to the work she loves after an entrepreneurial phase.
Du-Pont described this next chapter as difficult to put into words. After spending recent years concentrating on business, she is now stepping back into television, with more appearances to come.
She also stressed that the present economic climate demands flexibility. Industries and careers can change dramatically from one year, or one decade, to the next, she said, making it important for people to stay alert, adjust to new conditions and consider additional opportunities.
