Singer and songwriter Ami Faku has added to the list of South African stars who have graced American billboards this year. She graced the Time Square Billboard ahead of her virtual international performance this week.

Announcing the good news on Instagram, Ami shared a picture of the billboard with the caption: “Please join us this evening as I take the international virtual stage with my amazing band.
According to the press release by Music Service Africa, Ami Faku was the only one of three African artists performing on Stage It this week. Stage It is “an online performance venue headquartered in Hollywood”

“As only one of 3 African artists to perform on StageIt, make sure you don’t miss Ami Faku’s phenomenal performance with her band. On a billboard in Times Square New York this week, Ami Faku’s global footprint continues to grow. Wrapping up 2020 as part of Time Magazine’s “10 Best Songs of 2020” and featuring on Barack Obama’s Top 20 playlist of the year, Eastern Cape’s South African Voice of Modern Afro Soul is proving that her sound is not limited to the borders of South Africa. Don’t miss tonight’s performance for classics from Ami Faku’s debut album IMALI and more,” read the press release.

Ami has done so well for herself since her rise to fame back in 2017 when she entered the Voice SA and she continues to win. Early last month she shared that her hit song together with Prince Kaybee, Black Motion, and Shimza titled Uwrongo has been certified. “Uwrongo went platinum, thank you all so much,” she briefly wrote.

Last year she added another accolade to her achievement when Uwrongo landed on the 2020 Time Magazine’s top 10 best songs. The song also made it to the former United States of America Barack Obama’s top 20 playlists. Ami shared the exciting news on her Instagram tagging all the collaborators of the hit song.
“Can’t believe we made it to @barackobama favorite music for 2020,” she wrote.

She scooped the South African Music Awards (SAMA) nominations last year, best newcomer of the year, best afro-pop album, and won the female artist of the year.

Sho Majozi and her dance crew also featured on Time Square billboard this year on a Youtube Music’s Black Voices billboard in a commercial hub Times Square in New York. “ A village girl I Times Square #What a life,” she tweeted.
