Delta State has authorised spending of more than N2 billion to sponsor Christian pilgrims travelling to Israel and Jordan for the 2026 pilgrimage, setting out registration and screening requirements for prospective participants.
Application and screening timetable
- Erijo Etacherure, the Delta State Commissioner for the Bureau of Special Duties, announced the approval in Asaba during a briefing with the pilgrimage media head, Dr Latimore Oghenesivbe.
- The Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission, NCPC, is scheduled to begin screening applicants on November 11 at the Christian Association of Nigeria Secretariat in Asaba.
- Anyone who collected a registration form must complete and submit it by November 9 to the Executive Secretary of the Delta State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board.
- Applicants who miss the submission deadline will not be processed at the screening centre, Etacherure said. Prospective pilgrims must also present a valid ECOWAS international passport.
- The NCPC will make the final determination on which applicants meet the eligibility requirements.
- People who have previously travelled to Israel or Jordan under a Delta State-sponsored pilgrimage programme should not apply, as they will be disqualified.
