Galatasaray have announced that Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen has undergone an operation after injuring his knee in the club’s UEFA Champions League match against VfB Stuttgart.
The Super Eagles striker initially suffered a sprain to his left knee in connection with the Stuttgart fixture. Subsequent examinations, including an MRI, identified a loose fragment in the knee, prompting the need for surgical treatment.
In a statement issued on Saturday morning, the Turkish champions said the procedure was completed at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital by Yener İnce, the club’s doctor.
Osimhen will now be assessed by medical staff each day as his treatment and rehabilitation continue under the supervision of Galatasaray’s medical department. The Istanbul club wished the 27-year-old a swift recovery and said it hoped he would return to action once his physical condition permits.
Turkish sports daily Fanatik reported that the former African Footballer of the Year is likely to miss Galatasaray’s next league matches against Amedspor and Samsunspor. The report put his expected recovery and rehabilitation period at about three weeks.
If the recovery proceeds without complications, Osimhen could be in contention for Galatasaray’s Champions League match against Aston Villa on November 24.
The setback is also a concern for Nigeria coach Eric Chelle, who had been expected to rely on the striker for the Super Eagles’ upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Tanzania. Osimhen’s potential absence could complicate squad planning for what is expected to be an important international assignment.
