England captain Harry Kane made history in London on Monday night, winning the 2026 Ballon d’Or ahead of Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé and Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal.
- Before the main Ballon d’Or presentation, the Bayern Munich striker received the 2026 Gerd Müller Trophy, which recognises the leading goalscorer during the relevant award cycle.
- The Gerd Müller Trophy developed from France Football’s annual Best Striker prize, introduced in 2021.
- By securing both individual honours at the same ceremony, Kane became the first footballer ever to claim the Gerd Müller Trophy and the Ballon d’Or in a single year.
Goals and trophies underpin historic award
Kane scored 73 times and registered eight assists across club and international matches last season, a return that placed him at the centre of Bayern Munich’s successful campaign.
The 33-year-old helped Bayern win the 2025-26 Bundesliga, the German Cup and the German Super Cup, adding major team silverware to a season capped by football’s most prestigious individual prize.
