South African celebrity couple Dr Musa Mthombeni and Liesl Laurie-Mthombeni are in the final stretch toward a major relationship milestone, marking 59 months of marriage with affectionate—yet comically cheeky—messages for each other.
The pair, who exchanged vows in 2021 after what they described as a whirlwind romance, shared reflections on Instagram as they move closer to their fifth wedding anniversary. With the big day approaching, Dr Musa leaned into his usual humor, turning the occasion into a playful reminder about a promise he claims Liesl made during their ceremony.
“59 months married today! I can’t believe we’re almost 5 years married standwa sam! Geez man! Nearly 5 years ago to the day, you told the pastor and all in attendance that you love me so much, you’re going to buy me a helicopter when we hit 5 years!” he wrote.
He then continued the lighthearted theme by insisting the countdown to his dream gift has officially started, framing it like a fun lead-up to an imminent celebration. “Well ke sisi, your time has come! Please get ready to celebrate with me guys! I’m about to be a pilot! Captain Mthombeni is here very very soon! Shine BigDaddy Shine!” he added.
Liesl, meanwhile, matched the moment with sentiment, looking back on how their wedding plans unfolded during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. In a throwback post, the former Miss South Africa recalled that their lobola discussions happened remotely because of lockdown rules.
“5 years ago – lobola via Zoom call. We really said, ‘we are getting married, come hell or high water…’ I still cannot believe we survived a pandemic. Yooooh what a time! At least I was going through it with the love of my life,” she wrote.
