“I Never Hit Anyone With A Champagne Bottle”

Bujy Bikwa was once an acclaimed media broadcaster who was riding high from the success of his Podcast Network show The Queer Way Of Life. However, what was meant to be the start of his comeback to our television screens quickly turned into chaos when he was involved in a brawl with fellow media personality Boity Thulo.

As reported than in 2021:

It is reported that Boity and Bujy were at the Courtyard Hotel in Midrand last night when an argument ensued. Bujy is said to have thrown a bottle of alcohol across Boity’s face that left her with a cut. Boity was hospitalised.

Boity has opened a case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm at the Midrand police station. Bujy was arrested shortly afterward and spent the night in the police cells.

In the time since the brawl, Bujy nor Boity had shared publicly what had happened. However, images and audio of the events of that night were leaked. All of which seemed to paint Bujy as the perpetrator of what became the physical altercation that left Boity visibly scarred from the incident.

However, recently, Bujy finally broke his silence on the matter again as he denied hitting Boity with a champagne bottle as it was alleged.

Recently, Bujy conducted his first public interview following the altercation he had with Boity. During his interview, Bujy made it clear that the current narrative perpetuated by the media was incorrect.

While he does admit there was a brawl where he and Boity were involved, Bujy disagrees with the manner in which the matter has been told to the media. This includes:

Bujy denies hitting Boity with a champagne bottle.
The blood seen on Boity from the incident, Bujy denies that was from their altercation by suggesting that the stains on her shirt were from the wine he split on her and as a result of the fight landing up inside the hotel’s pool.
He asserts that Boity was not only fighting with him on the day.

As such, Bujy explained that his silence to date had to do with the fact that he wanted Boity to first share her experience from that night. Asserting that if he first shared his series of events first would seem like he was attempting to deflect the blame.

Moreover, he explains that he and Boity were never friends. However, they were together at the hotel as Bujy was set to be announced as the latest Huawei ambassador, which Boity is the main ambassador of hence their coincidental interactions on the day.

In light of everything that has happened since, Bujy explained that he is looking forward to the day when his name is cleared as there is camera footage and an extended audio clip from their altercation which he believes exonerates him of the gender-based-violence stigma and of being the one who is entirely to blame for the events of that unfaithful night.
