K.O’s SETE featuring Young Stunna and Blxckie currently stands as the top contender for this year’s Song of the Year. This is as South Africans are counting down the days until we welcome 2023, and without strong competition this year, many believe that SETE is set to take the title.

However, a rising underdog, in terms of the competition for the Song of the Year title is the remake of the 2010 original Bacardi inspired single Tobesta, which was originally released by DJ Mujava. The return of the memorable melodies and key led single has resulted in a Tobetsa Dance Challenge with the likes of Cassper Nyovest, Nkosazana Daughter, and many others “pressing buttons in the air.”

But like many Amapiano hit songs, the Tobetsa (Remix) is facing drama behind the scenes. This is as it seems that there are three popular remixes, from those three remixes, there are two that have been officially released, and many other remixes aiming to capitalise on the success of the song.

Kamo Mphela explains being cut from Tobetsa (Remix)

Currently, the official leading Tobesta (Remix) is the instrumental by Myztro with ShaunMusiq and Ftears. The instrumental was released in November 2021. However, arguably, it was in December 2022, that the single started to garner national acclaim.

This is as the remix was remixed again, this time featuring Focalistic and DaliWonga with the title being amended to Chommie ke Chenchitse. Since the release of this version, the song has become viral with even more dance challenges created in light of the continued success of the single.

However, people wondered as to when the remix featuring Kamo Mphela would be released. This is as in November 2022, Mphela was part of the ZAlebs who were endorsing the song via social media by performing dance challenges to the song.
As such, it was expected that the remix featuring Focalistic and DaliWonga would also feature the Amanikiniki vocalist. But Kamo Mphela has come out to address why her version of the Tobetsa (Remix) will not see the light of day. Besides there being the unofficial full-length single already circulating on the internet.

Speaking on the matter during her appearance on the season one finale of the highly successful Amapiano podcast, Jazzi2 and Friends. Mphela shared in part that:

“Like that Tobetsa chat is so messy, and I think it just takes off energy with like you’re trying to push a song because- Okay.”

Mphela then suggests that the many versions of the song circulating was the cause she is no longer supporting the song.

As such, it does not seem that the remix with Kamo Mphela will be officially released. This is as Mphela has asserted that she is letting go of the song and “charging it to the game.” Moreover, while Mphela was meant  to release her new single in December 2022, it seems that now listeners will have to wait until the New Year for the release.
