#TheWife: Is Khanyi Good Enough To Play Zandile?

Her fans feel otherwise

Just recently, television actress Khanyi Mbau took to her social media to share with her fans her most recent development in her career. She has just recently landed a role on season 2 of The Wife where she will be starring as Zandile The Resolute, playing the wife of Nkosana (fan-favourite Mondli Makhoba), the leader of the Zulu brothers’ crime family.  



And while this news has been received with much excitement and awe from her fans, it seems, some of her other fans think that inasmuch as they do love her as an actress, they just don’t think she would be a good fit for the role. 



They have since taken to Twitter to express their concerns with many saying that Zandile needs to be played by someone who is not Khanyi Mbau. It is not clear exactly why they think so but for some, they believe the show deserves a new face and not someone who is already overexposed in the industry.

Khanyi who has also spoken about how she feels about this role seems to address some of the concerns that are being raised by her fans. She says, “The greatest challenge for an actress is being a part of a story that everyone knows,”


“That brings a lot of expectations that you need to live up to. There’s a cult around this show so there’s a lot of pressure. And before being part of the cast, I am a fan, so I really don’t want to drop the ball. For me to depict this character is really something that can either make me or break me, to be quite honest with you, but I love the thrill.”


But despite all the fears that are going round on whether or not Khanyi will play the lead role with all the pressure that is already on her, her loyal fans have taken to supporting her fully and shut down every other doubt that has been raised up against Khanyi.


And who can blame them, time and time again, we have seen Khanyi rise up to the challenge in most of not all her shows. If you can remember, her most recent work, Happiness Ever After received a lot of rave reviews, and it seems most of it was all because Khanyi had a role to play in the sequel. 



Khanyi is set to make her debut as Zandile in February 2022 and we can only wish her the best even as she sets out on this new and exciting journey.
