Makhadzi's Ghanama featuring Prince Benza won song of the year and she penned a letter of appreciation to both Prince Benza and King Monada. Despite their differences, Makhadzi said they all won the award even after removing King Monada's verse on the song.
“I would like to thank all my fans who voted for me. I am speechless about this big achievement. All I see every day is love. Thank you for loving me. I SCOOPED TWO AWARDS YESTERDAY, MY HARD WORK DESERVES THIS. Thank you, my people," Makhadzi gushed.
She then went on to thank the two artists, "To my brothers, PRINCE BENZA AND KING MONADA thank you for being part of Ghanama journey it doesn’t matter what happened, to me we all won this award,” she added.
The drama surrounding Ghanama is one that dragged on for far too long. Makhadzi and Monada both went on to claim that it was a mere publicity stunt however Makhadzi backtracked from that and said it was not.
If you may recall, they were at war over the ownership of Ghanama with the other wanting the upper hand than the next. In a Facebook rant Makhadzi said, "GHANAMA SONG IS MY SONG, MY CONCEPT and MELODIES, Featuring King Monada and PRINCE BENZA ON THE BEATS... I did a song after recording Monada's song called impossible.
"Our king must just drop his song called impossible ft makhadzi.. 'cause we can't let greediness make us fight! How can you own a song without doing anything Our king must do the right thing 'cause I won't allow him to own my work ...no matter the love and respect I have towards him...King must just swallow his pride and give me credit for my work."
Monada then hit back at Makhadzi but not only that, he did his own version of Ghanama and featured a muso from Limpopo, Mukosi, who sang Makhadzi's verse.
But Makhadzi and Monada later reunited at an ANC rally to perform the track.
Gushing over her win, Makhadzi said she had asked to perform at the DMVCA's so people could know who she is, "So 2 years back I asked and begged to perform on the DstvMVCA ...for free, that was my chance for South Africa to at least know there is a girl called Makhadzi ...Now here I am collecting awards. I cannot thank my fans enough for this and next month I have a tour in UK... I released a song Magear just so you don't forget Makhadzi while I am out," she wrote.
