Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela broke the hearts of the Black Door viewers when he alleged that the raunchy e.tv drama series got canned.

When it launched, the show drew just under 2.6 million viewers, with a 37.4 percent audience share. The series which airs every night at 21h30; was according to Phil, not pulling in impressive numbers.

"The Black Door cancelled. Sad news for #TheBlackDoor fans. The etv telenovela will not be renewed for another season. Pulling just under 2.6-million viewers peak — with an audience share of 37.4% for its timeslot, the show was not a dud, numbers wise," wrote Phil.

But speaking to TshisaLIVE, Black Brain's Mandla N said the show is going nowhere and that they are the fastest growing show on e.tv. He said e.tv is happy with the show and that it was all just fake news!

“Not at all. I also got that on social media. We are not getting canceled and obviously the show is doing really, really well. We are the fastest growing show on the e.tv platform right now. Obviously the commissioning editor and channel is very happy with us, so we are really excited about that. That was just fake news and rumours,” he said.

Also reacting to the fake news, was e.tv who told the publication that the show is not going anywhere, “We have no idea where the tweet got the information.”

A Black Brain show that is ending though is Mzansi Magic's DiepCity.

In a statement, Black Brain said the show was only going to run for two years, "DiepCity has always been envisaged to be two years production in partnership with Mzansi Magic and now the contract is nearing its end. A deliberate and strategic move by Mzansi Magic, to offer viewers a dynamic show that would keep them glued to their screens and secure that slot," the statement read.

Mandla N expressed gratitude to avid viewers who made the show the success it is, for two seasons running, "DiepCity has been hit on South African television and has introduced audiences to unique characters who have resonated strongly with fans. DiepCity fans have played a big role in the success of the show over the past two years and we are thankful for their support," he said.

The channel said "Since its debut in April 2021, DiepCity has added colour, life and heart to our channel, and it has continued to give us dynamic and enthralling storylines. We would like to thank the production, cast and crew for their commitment to the series, dedication to their craft and consistent hard work,” said Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net.
